Istanbul: The Roaring Voice of God

I have fond memories of Minsk's international airport, having had some wonderful experiences there--some of them good.

The airport is charmingly different from the spick and span airports we travel nowadays. Stucco peels off the walls, jets sit on the runway, engine-less, grass grows through cracks in the runway. How can you not love it?

Minsk is a large city, one of the largest in the ex-Soviet Union. The interior is pretty and calm, with a river running through the center of town.

Interesting fact: It was to Minsk that Lee Harvey Oswald fled when he left the United States.

I love gas stations in Belarus. Army trucks line up with buses, private cars rattling blue smoke lurch forward, and usually only one island is working.
