Swirl is representative of a modern illustrative trend in Belarus which focuses on softer, flowing lines compared to traditional nesting doll styles which are more sharply outlined.
This doll shows a group of peasant girls returning from the village well, each holding a wooden bucket full of water at her side. It is expressly due to this countryside origin that the artists have painted these dolls by using earth hues to illustrate the humble--yet pretty--clothing the girls wear.
A seven part set, the larger doll being five and a half inches high. Like all of our nesting dolls, Swirl is handlathed and handpainted.
