TEXTILES

Suzani are hand-embroidered decorative textiles which have been traditionally made by 13-15 year old Turkmen girls for their trousseaus. Cotton and silk material is typically used.

Oftentimes, this is a group effort, but it is traditionally the girl who is to marry who designs her suzani. The cloth is laid out on the floor and outlined in charcoal or pen. If you look carefuly, you will see tracings of the outline.

At this point, the hand-embroidery begins. It requires months...allow us to repeat that...months to finish a single suzani.

Suzani are used by customers as throws, bedcoverings and wall hangings.
